PRP/PRF Gel

Platelets have earned themselves a solid spot in the skincare arena simply because they rejuvenate the cells and skin.Although PRP and PRF first became popular for aiding wound healing, once the therapy showed benefits for the skin and hair, platelet-derived treatments quickly became a skin-boosting must-have treatment. At Aria Wellness, we offer PRP and PRF in Wilkes-Barre, PA, providing treatments that work well in place of dermal fillers and deliver impressive beauty benefits. Still, platelet-centric treatments work best for their beauty benefits, including regrowing thinning hair, rejuvenating the skin, and improving its texture.

How Does PRP and PRF Work?

How Does PRP and PRF Work?

Using platelets as plasma or fibrin naturally stimulates cellular rejuvenation and collagen production without lasers, fillers, injectables, and other ingredients. PRP and PRF aid the skin and hair, but each one works differently.

Platelets, a type of blood cell, contain growth factors to stimulate stem cell productivity and action to increase collagen and elastin in the skin and speed up wound healing. PRP is spun faster in the centrifuge than PRF. Also, PRP requires adding an external anticoagulant, whereas PRF is considered 100 percent natural since it doesn’t contain any additives.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a way to rejuvenate the cells by repairing signs of aging and damage and preventing future damage. PRP is a regenerating and rejuvenating treatment for the skin. It involves drawing a sample of a patient’s blood and separating the plasma. The plasma is the most valuable part of the blood for regeneration. These components are essential for the skin’s natural healing processes.

PRP allows the body to heal better and amplify biological growth factors necessary for healing injured tissue. PRP effects are further amplified using the matrix with microneedling or laser treatments.

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is similar to PRP, but there’s one key difference: PRF releases growth factors over time rather than at once since the platelets are prepared slower, giving it more of a long-term benefit. PRF comprises fibrin, platelets, leucocytes, cytokines, and circulating stem cells. Since the platelets in PRF are said to last longer than PRP, it’s thought to help promote healing faster. PRF can produce a higher cumulative release of growth factors than PRP. Also, this release is slow, making it ideal for tissue regeneration and growth stimulation. PRF injections are created by adding a fibrin matrix to the platelets, which creates a more stable injectable. About 15-20 minutes after the platelets are separated, the PRF becomes gel-like.

Since both PRP and PRF use platelets derived from blood, the procedures have little risk, making everyone a candidate for the treatment.

What are the Benefits?

What are the Benefits?

Whether you opt for PRP or PRF, both treatments involve drawing blood and putting it through a centrifuge before injecting or applying the matrix to the skin. Both PRP and PRF use your blood, which is spun down to extract platelets and reinject them to stimulate collagen and improve the appearance of the skin.

The benefits of PRP include:

Increased production of collagen and elastin

Improved skin texture and tone

Reduction of the appearance of scars and stretch marks

Diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles

The benefits of PRF include:

Create a plumping effect in place of fillers, like under the eyes

Decrease the look of wrinkles

Improve the overall health and appearance of the skin

Aid in collagen production

PRF also contains high concentrations of fibrin and white blood cells that rejuvenate the skin.

PRF is often used in

  • areas where wrinkles are present.

However, PRF isn’t a direct replacement for volume-deficient areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

PRP and PRF treatments vary in price depending on which treatment you choose and what areas you wish to treat. To determine the cost of your treatment, call our office to schedule a consultation where we will put a custom program together to correct your current skin concerns.

To prevent any bruising and swelling, avoid taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including aspirin and ibuprofen, for two to four weeks before your treatment. These medications can interact with the platelet coagulation process and cause less-than-desirable results. You’ll also want to stay well-hydrated and drink enough water before and after the treatment. Also, avoid drinking alcoholic beverages for at least one week before the treatment and avoid using topical retinol or exfoliating acid products a few days before.

It is expected to have some bruising or swelling when treating the under-eye area with PRF. The area may also appear ‘fuller’ for three to five days after the treatment, and the skin may have yellowish discoloration.

PRP and PRF take time to show the results; in most cases, repeat treatments are necessary. You will begin to see the results about one to two months later

Since your blood is used, you will unlikely experience any reactions or side effects. However, swelling and bruising from injections are normal no matter which treatment is done.

PRF facial injections are performed as a series. It can take up to three to four months for the effects to be noticeable, which lasts about six to 12 months. Improvement of scars is long-lasting.
